A Need For Reform & Renewal – 6/10

Tariq Ramadan discusses his conception of reform (islah) and renewal (tajdid) in Islam, focusing on the need to reform our reading, understanding and consequently implementation of Islam's foundational texts in light of the historico-cultural contexts in which Muslims currently live.

It is a matter of recapturing the original essence and "form" of the message, and to remain faithful to it while lucidly facing the evolution and changes of human beings and society.

Dr. Ahmad Farouk Musa and Professor Kamal Hassan gave the opening speeches.

The lecture took place on the 12th of December 2009 at the auditorium of the Securities Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
